Course Description
Determining a building’s classification (“Construction Articles” 3.2.2.20. to 3.2.2.90.) is arguably one of the most important steps when applying the Building Code to a design. A building’s classification will dictate basic criteria such as allowable size (area and height), type of construction, and sprinkler requirements. But the Building Code can be tricky at times, and misinterpretation can lead to unfavourable results, greatly impacting projects.
Join Kelsey and Andrea as they guide you through the steps involved in classification and highlight common pitfalls that could just save you a massive headache.
Bonus: This webinar will include an interactive Kahoot! component to keep the session dynamic and engaging. No download is required, and instructions will be provided during the session—just bring your curiosity (and maybe a competitive spirit)!
Learning Objectives
By the end of this webinar, participants will be able to:
1. Interpret the design inputs required for building classification (major occupancies, building height, building area, and number of streets facing).
2. Recognize the common pitfalls encountered when classifying a building.
3. Select a building’s “Construction Article”.
4. Highlight discussion points for interpretation differences with the Authority Having Jurisdiction.
